Foreword

Social Work, both as theory and practice from its inception to present, performing the protagonist role in enhancing human wellbeing, social justice, empowerment of under privileged, peace and tranquility in the society. As a consequence, social work as a subject is increasingly engaging the attention of reformers, human and social activists, policy makers, NGOs and civil society at large.

It is found that during the last seven and half decades of existence of social work education in India, there is dearth of literature in the subject of social work and more significantly on its methods and approaches. At this juncture, publishing a book in the areas of community organization and social action certainly needs recognition, appreciation and encouragement.

I congratulate Dr. B.S. Gunjal, Associate Professor, Department of Social Work, Kuvempu University, Shimoga for his benign effort in editing a book on "Community Organization and Social Action (Methods of Social Work)". This is a notable contribution to social work literature and wherein this book portrays significant presentation on fundamental concepts and elements; themes and sub-themes on the methods of community organization and social action. I hope this is going to enlighten and help social work educators and practitioners in general and students and researchers in particular. This book also contributes a great source of help to serious explorers, researchers and practitioners who constantly involve in cummunity welfare and social welfare research and developmental activities.

I further congratulate the other authors, who have written various articles in this book for their scholarly presentation. By all means this book is characterized by profound scholarship and highly informative.
